  1. No compromise do it all Hardtail

Posted by Mark Hooper on 7th Oct 2016

At 6'3" tall I was reluctant to place an order without first getting in a test ride. This was where Cranknuts were really excellent and went that extra mile to allow me a test ride on this bike. They were also spot on when it came to helping out with the final build - providing me with valuable advice and competitive pricing.

I've owned many Hardtail MTB frames over the years and my riding spans from XC to Enduro, both competitive and for fun.

The EPO itself really is quite a frame. It has now taken my riding to the next level and I'm going faster and further than ever before. Any reservations I had about the fragility of Carbon Fibre as a frame material were dispelled after taking part in the 'Ard Rock Enduro on this bike... This event tales place in the Yorkshire Moors, which is basically one large Rock Garden. After pinging large rocks off the frame all weekend the only visible scars were a couple of chips and scrapes to the lacquer. This is a seriously tough frame. (I've protected the underside of the down tube and driveside chainstay with Shelter Tape).

I love the fact that you get a normal threaded BB shell (I'm not a fan of pres fit BBs). The integrated headset is simple and works really well but your choice of compatible headsets is limited. The cable and hose routing works perfectly, there's no stealth dropper routing but that was not an important requirement for me.

The agility and capability of this bike has really re-invigorated my riding this year. In fact - I'm off to ride it in my local hills right now!

  2. Great handling, versatile frame

I wasn't sure which size to buy. I'm 5'10", with a relatively long torso, which puts me bang between sizes. Went for a medium in the end. A 70mm stem feels spot in on terms of reach. I tried an 80mm, but it was too long and the handling was ruined, so I was lucky really. If I had gone for a large, for the same reach I'd be running a 45mm stem, which some might prefer but I like a bit more stem than that. Rides brilliantly with 140mm Pikes - confident and playful on the downs, very chuck-able, and amazingly good as a flat out cross country bike, which I wasn't expecting. Pedaling position is perfect for me. There seems to be quite a bit of compliance in the frame, but you don't feel it when pedaling. Thinking of reducing travel to 130, which is probably plenty for me and the type of riding I do, while tightening up the handling slightly. The frame needs a bit of protection - consider invisiframe or do it DIY with helitape and lizardskins as I did. The rear brake calliper is awkward to fit and adjust, but is OK once used to it. Integrated headset and threaded BB are easy to fit and maintain.
